Minuteman High School Welcomes New Principal Paul M. D'Alleva

Lexington, MA — Minuteman Regional Technical Vocational High School is excited to announce the appointment of Paul M. D'Alleva as the new principal. With a distinguished 24-year career in education, Mr. D'Alleva brings a wealth of experience and a passion for student success to our esteemed institution.

Mr. D'Alleva has a rich history with Medford Public Schools, where he served in various capacities including chemistry teacher, class advisor, varsity coach, assistant principal, principal and executive director of data and reporting. He holds a Master's degree in Secondary Education from Suffolk University and has earned postgraduate credits in School Leadership from Salem State University and Fitchburg State University.

Mr. D'Alleva expressed his enthusiasm for his new role, stating, "I am thrilled to assume the role of principal at Minuteman Technical Vocational High School, where students can thrive in a cutting-edge learning environment that nurtures their academic, social, and emotional growth. With a deep understanding of the importance of supporting all learners, I am committed to fostering a culture of excellence that benefits students, teachers, and families alike."

Interim Superintendent Kevin Mahoney shared his excitement about Mr. D'Alleva's appointment, saying, "We are incredibly pleased to welcome Mr. D’Alleva to Minuteman High School. A proud resident of Burlington, Massachusetts, Mr. D'Alleva enjoys a vibrant family life with his wife, their 20-year-old daughter, 16-year-old son, and their 2-year-old golden retriever, Chapo.

Minuteman SkillsUSA Chapter Collaborates with Filmmaker David Abel for Exclusive Screening of Inundation District

Lexington, MA, May 21, 2024–The Minuteman SkillsUSA chapter is thrilled to announce an exciting collaboration with acclaimed filmmaker David Abel for an exclusive screening of his documentary "Inundation District" on May 31 at 6:30 PM. This special event will include a live Q&A session with David Abel, providing attendees with a unique opportunity to engage directly with the filmmaker and learn about the critical issue of climate change.

The screening will take place at Minuteman Regional Vocational Technical High School, and tickets are priced at $10. All proceeds from the event will support the Minuteman SkillsUSA chapter as they prepare to compete at the national level in Atlanta, Georgia.

"Inundation District" is a powerful documentary that delves into the devastating impacts of climate change on communities and the environment. David Abel, a renowned journalist and filmmaker, brings his expertise and passion for environmental issues to the screen, offering a compelling narrative that is both informative and urgent.

U.S. Secretary of Education Names Minuteman Regional Technical Vocational High School, 2024 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School / District Sustainability Awardee/ Postsecondary Sustainability Awardee

The U.S. Department of Education announced today that Minuteman Regional Vocational Technical High School, in Lexington, Ma is among the 2024 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools award honorees.

Minuteman Regional Vocational Technical High School was nominated by DESE Minuteman built a state-of-the-art LEED Silver certified building to replace an outdated 30+-year-old facility. The Horticulture and Environmental Science programs each have a greenhouse space with a 2,000-gallon water collection system for roof runoff. The greenhouse supports a sustainable food and farming curriculum by allowing students to be able to grow produce and herbs year-round that supply the student cafeteria. Students tend five beehives and learn how to tap the maples on campus to collect sap for maple syrup production, reinforcing the value of the landscape as it relates to the economy and environmental health. The building was outfitted with a rooftop solar photovoltaic system. Minuteman makes every effort to ensure that career and technical education programs keep up with sustainability progress in each industry.

[Lexington, Massachusetts February 16, 2024 ] – The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s (DESE) Office of Language Acquisition (OLA) will conduct a Tiered Focused Monitoring Review of Minuteman Regional Vocational Technical School District during the week of February 26, 2024.

The Office of Language Acquisition reviews each district’s and charter school’s English Learner Education (ELE) program every six years to monitor compliance with federal and state English learner education laws and regulations. Areas of review will include English learners’ student assessments, identification of English learners; what programs English learners are placed in, parent and community involvement, curriculum and instruction, student support services, licensure requirements for faculty, staff and administration, program plans, and evaluation and recordkeeping.

In addition to the onsite visit, parent outreach is an important part of the review process. The district will send a survey to the parents of students whose records the review team examines with. The survey focuses on key areas of their child’s English learner education program. Survey results will be reviewed by OLA and they will contribute to the monitoring report. Parents and other individuals may call David Valade, Office of Language Acquisition Review Chairperson, at (781) 338-6711 to request a telephone interview. If an individual requires an accommodation, such as translation, to participate in an interview, DESE will make the necessary arrangements.

Within approximately 60 business days of the onsite visit, the review chairperson will provide the Minuteman Regional Vocational Technical School District with a report with information about areas in which the Minuteman Regional Vocational Technical School District meets or exceeds regulatory requirements and areas in which the Minuteman Regional Vocational Technical School District requires assistance to correct or improve practices. The report will be available to the public at https://www.doe.mass.edu/ele/cpr/.

LEXINGTON – Minuteman High School has been named a 2018 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. The announcement of all 349 public and private school honorees was made on October 1, 2018 by U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos.

Abington High School and Swampscott High School are the other Massachusetts schools that earned this recognition. Minuteman is the sole vocational high school in the state to be accorded this award.

“This is an incredible recognition of the work of my staff and administrators,” said Minuteman Superintendent Dr. Edward A. Bouquillon. “I hope this accolade causes parents to take notice of Minuteman and how our model of learning and teaching can give their children a real advantage in high school, in college and in their careers.”

According to a U.S. Department of Education press release, National Blue Ribbon Schools earn that designation by excelling in one of two performance categories - either as Exemplary High Performing Schools or Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing Schools, “which are among their state’s highest performing schools in closing achievement gaps between a school’s student groups and all students over the past five years.”

All three National Blue Ribbon Schools from Massachusetts including Minuteman were cited for being Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing Schools.

Secretary DeVos lauded the award-winning schools in a video message, saying, “I'm pleased to celebrate with you as your school is named a National Blue Ribbon School. We recognize and honor your important work in preparing students for successful careers and meaningful lives. Congratulations on your students' accomplishments and for your extraordinary commitment to meeting their unique needs.”

An awards ceremony for all of this year’s National Blue Ribbon Schools will be held at the Omni Shoreham in Washington, D.C., on November 7 and 8, 2018.

Since the inception of the National Blue Ribbon School awards in 1982, more than 8,800 schools have been honored.

Minuteman has previously been acknowledged for academic excellence and for significantly closing achievement gaps. Just a few months ago, on April 5, 2018, Minuteman was named a Massachusetts Commendation School by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for being outstanding in those two categories. Governor Charles D. Baker presented Dr. Bouquillon with a plaque honoring the school at a State House ceremony.

Minuteman is nine months away from moving into a new $145M facility that has been designed to support a robust college and career academy model. The academy model was adopted by staff and administration to create smaller “schools within a school” thereby promoting more personalized learning founded upon close relationships between students and teachers. The Minuteman college and career academy model integrates rigorous academics with relevant technical programming in occupational areas providing individual economic opportunity. The new facility will accommodate project-based learning across disciplines, requiring students to learn how to work on a diverse team, solve problems and think critically. These are essential 21st-Century skills that students practice and apply in a variety of school-based and work-based environments.
