Program Description
Robotics and Automation is a rapidly growing field which combines elements of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and programming. It includes the design, implementation, configuration, operation, programming, maintenance and repair of intelligent machines. Robotic systems are utilized for many applications in manufacturing and assembly, defense, space and underwater exploration, disaster relief as well as many newly emerging service applications.
The Minuteman Robotics & Automation program gives students a solid foundation for future work or study in this exciting and growing field. Working hands-on in the classroom and using modern state-of-the-art equipment, students will learn to design, build and program robots, as well effectively test their own designs and programs. After becoming familiar with the essential building blocks of robot operations such as motors and sensors, students will construct and program robots on a variety of platforms, including Arduino and VEX V5. They will learn to use different logic controllers, and to set up and trouble-shoot various automated production lines. They will use cutting-edge industrial robots such as Universal Robots and Kuka Robots. Moreover, students will learn key engineering skills such as CAD (computer-aided design), applied engineering physics and electronics, and industry-standard software tools like Multisim®, SolidWorks® and the AutoDesk® suite of programs.This program provides students with the skills and confidence they need to succeed as a robotics or engineering student after high school, and the embedded college-level classes will qualify them for up to 9 college credits by the time they graduate.
