Dear Minuteman High School Community:

We are writing to provide you an important update about the coronavirus emergency. This afternoon, Governor Charlie Baker ordered all schools in Massachusetts to remain closed until Monday, May 4. This decision was made due to a rising number of COVID-19 cases across the state, and the need for people to continue to practice social distancing to contain the outbreak.

Massachusetts remains under a “stay at home advisory,” which was put into effect Tuesday, requiring all businesses that do not provide essential services to close their physical workplaces and facilities to employees and the public.

At Minuteman, we are continuing to provide online enrichment learning for students. The state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education said it will provide additional guidelines pertaining to distance learning before the end of the week.

I’d also like to share that I was proud of our school community this week when we donated more than 300 packages of personal protective equipment – including face masks, respirators, sanitizer, and other items – to the Lexington and Lincoln police and fire departments, along with Emerson Hospital in Concord. Many of our students are the next generation of nurses and EMTs, and helping one another as a community is part of who we are. (Read the Concord Journal article or our press release.)

If you or someone you know is conducting a home project – such as sewing face masks – to protect our medical workers and first responders, please let us know so we can help spread the word and encourage others to join in this effort.

I’d like to thank all of our students, parents, guardians, teachers, and staff for continuing to pull together as we weather these unprecedented times.
