Michael served seven years as a member of the Minuteman Advisory Board for the Engineering and Robotic shops prior to his appointment to the Minuteman School Committee. For three years, he was co-chair of the board and its representative to Minuteman's General Advisory Board. He was active in winning two referenda in 2016 to secure the funding for Minuteman's new building – first in the town of Arlington, and then across all of the then-16 towns in the regional district.
Michael and his wife Susan have lived in Arlington since 1990. Their daughter Julia is a 2016 Minuteman graduate. Michael is well versed in political process and has been an elected member of Arlington's Town Meeting since 2001. Michael served for 10 years on the Arlington Historical Commission and writes and lectures frequently on topics in local history. He is a passionate supporter of the performing arts, and serves as a board member and treasurer of the non-profit television studio Arlington Community Media, Inc. (ACMI).
