Minuteman Student Named National Merit Semifinalist and Achieves AP Scholar with Distinction

Minuteman High School is proud to celebrate the achievements of Sunay Agarwal, who has been named a National Merit semifinalist and recognized as an AP Scholar with Distinction. A standout student, Sunay has demonstrated excellence in academics and extracurricular activities, excelling in Minuteman’s dual enrollment program and Engineering. Sunay has pursued academic rigor and taken on leadership roles in several clubs and organizations, including the FIRST Robotics Club, Math Team, and SkillsUSA, where he has earned state recognition for his work in Engineering Technology.

Additionally, Sunay has self-studied several Advanced Placement courses, further pushing himself to exceed expectations. Outside of the classroom, he is an active member of the National Honor Society and a top scorer in multiple math competitions, including the American Invitational Mathematics Exam and the Harvard-MIT Math Tournament.

After high school, Sunay hopes to continue his studies in engineering, with a focus on electrical engineering. He plans to apply Early Decision to Cornell University while considering other prestigious institutions like RIT and WPI. As he awaits further news on his National Merit Finalist status, Sunay’s future looks incredibly bright.

Today officials of National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC®) announced the names of more than 16,000 Semi-finalists in the 70th annual National Merit

Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 6,870 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $26 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semi-finalists must fulfil several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 95 percent of the Semi-finalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.
