November 2021: Fall 2021 Marks Milestones

November 2021

Dear Minuteman High School Community,

It has been a busy fall at Minuteman High School, to say the least. We began the school year with a full return to in-person learning, sports, clubs, events, and activities. It has been a joy to witness all our students return to active engagement in hands-on learning and the moments that define the high school experience.

The autumn of 2021 has already marked a couple of significant milestones for Minuteman. First, we launched the new Animal Science career major after three years of planning and collaboration with industry partners, including BluePearl Pet Hospital, which will help provide students with hands-on learning experiences. There has been tremendous interest from freshmen students in joining the program amid a significant need for skilled workers in the veterinary field – with jobs expected to grow 16% over the next decade, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Animal Science is a clear example of how Minuteman actively builds educational programming and opportunities for students to gain careers in rewarding, high-demand fields.

The second milestone was the opening of the first of three new synthetic turf athletic fields on campus. The first-ever games were held on the new field during Homecoming on October 23, with Minuteman Boys’ Soccer and Girls’ Soccer each playing Nashoba Valley Technical High School, followed by the Football Team playing KIPP Academy. Not only will the new fields bring our Minuteman Revolution players a strong sense of pride, but it will help accomplish the school’s mission of providing a revolution in learning, which extends to fitness, wellness, teamwork, and social-emotional growth.

Fall also marks the beginning of enrollment season for current middle school students and parents. As anticipated, Minuteman continues to receive significant interest from families seeking high-quality career technical education, rigorous academics, and a robust high school experience. It’s more important than ever for in-district applicants to meet the deadlines to receive priority in the admissions process for next school year. We recently held a well-attended virtual information session with parents, along with Showcase Day for eighth graders. The annual open house is this Sunday, November 21, and we continue to provide private tours. For more information, visit minuteman.org/admissions.

Enrollment season for adult students in the Minuteman Technical Institute evening programs continues as well. Programs begin in January for metal fabrication, carpentry, CNC machine operation, and plumbing code. Visit minutemanti.org for more information.

After all that everyone has gone through with the pandemic, we are happy to have all our students back to school and activities full time and to see years of planning come to fruition. We look forward to hosting more games and events at our facility in the future. We look forward to seeing you and appreciate the ongoing support of our students, parents, staff, and partners.

Sincerely,
Dr. B.
