Welcome Message from School Building Committee Chair
Approach Rendering, KBA 2017
Welcome to the Minuteman School Building Committee website. All the information related to the Minuteman School Building Project may be found here. All information generated prior to May 1, 2017 can be found in our Archive. This includes engineering and technical reports, budget reports, correspondence, legal opinions, and records of meetings accumulated over a period of 8-9 years.
We are nearing the end of Module 7, the Construction phase of the MSBA process. The new Minuteman building opened its doors to students on September 3, 2019 and today it is an active school binging exploration, innovation and educational opportunities to over 600 students ( https://youtu.be/AE8bY_J1zDE ). On October 4, 2019 Minuteman hosted our Grand Ribbon Cutting ( https://patch.com/massachusetts/lexington/grand-opening-ribbon-cutting-new-minuteman-high-school ) attended by District community leaders, friends State officials and students and faculty. For on-going progress reports please use the Building Project Reports site.
The Project Schedule
Our new educational facility is being designed to meet the career and technical education needs of our District as outlined in the Education Program Plan.
The construction team is actively engaged in addressing “punch list” items in the new building.
It has started the demolition phase of our old building and the repurposing of the site on the Lexington side of the campus. The plan is to convert a portion of that property into an Athletic complex for the school and community. This process will take another twelve months.
Read the thumbnail facts about the project here.
Site and Design
The Architect's presentation to the School Building Committee on July 24, 2017 on the New Minuteman Vocational Technical High School can be seen here.
All activity will be posted on our website under Important Community Notifications. Photos and descriptions will be posted under Building Project Progress Reports
Our Design and Construction Team Skanska, USA is our Owners Project Manager; Kaestle Boos Associates, Inc. is our Architect, and Gilbane Building Company is our General Contractor, hired under the Construction Manager at Risk contract. This team completed the construction process a year ahead of schedule and within budget.
I hope your review of the School Building Committee website will be helpful. I recommend reading the MSBA Modules Overview to better understand the process that must be followed in order to receive the MSBA reimbursement. Thank you for your interest and consideration of this important project for our future students and our communities. If you have questions, feel free to contact me by email.
