Vision

Through a collaboration between business and education, it is the Partnership’s intent to contribute to the educational, economic and political environments where students, faculties and administration experience the activities of the workplace while businesses contribute guidance, methods and opportunities to help shape education and to develop a more qualified work force.

The Minuteman Business/Education Alliance was formed in the fall of 2000 as a spin-off from the Minuteman School-To-Careers Partnership. As the school districts, expressed a desire to strengthen relationships with the business community, contact with some business members of the community ensued. It was found that our area businesses were very interested in participating in an alliance membership.

Thus, an Alliance Board was formed, and the rudiments of what will eventually become a very large alliance began to align themselves.

Although the Alliance is still in an “infant” stage considering the number of businesses that exist in our district, it grows quite steadily in spite of difficult economic times.

It is the intent, through establishing this Alliance, that a strong “two-way street” may be established between education and businesses. The schools in the district would like to assist businesses whenever possible. The businesses have proven to be great sources of assistance as we try to place students in quality internships, set the students up for job shadowing experiences, and request that some of the member businesses provide speakers ( in certain types of occupations) for certain area classrooms. Many businesses in the past have also participated in teacher externships where teachers obtain up-to-date knowledge concerning how their subject matter is utilized in the field. Classroom teaching is greatly improved when teachers are able to return to the classroom with this specific type of knowledge.
