Council Responsibilities
Principals/School Council School Committee/Superintendent

Councils assist principals in:

  • setting goals for the school
  • identifying students' educational needs
  • reviewing the school building's budget
  • preparing the school improvement plan

Annually submit school improvement plans to school committee.

Cannot be involved in issues subject to collective bargaining.

Identify process for scheduling and reviewing school improvement plans;

Review school improvement plans annually; plan is deemed approved if no action taken within 30 days of submission of plan;

May grant additional authority over educational policy to school councils.
