ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT
AUTHORS’ WORKSHOP - Bring your own story idea. Write, design and create your own beautiful hard-cover book.

BIOQUEST - Look at a zoo of microorganisms, take DNA out of bacteria and learn the effects of radiation in a laboratory with professional scientist-teachers.

CHEM 4 KIDS - Extract colors from Kool-Aid with chromatography, determine acidic strength using cabbage juice, and create superballs with mini laboratory experiments.

MATH MAGIC - Use computer software to discover the illusions and tricks of math.

ROADMAP TO MY FUTURE - Use the latest computer software and other career finding activities to get some ideas about what types of careers best fit your interests, aptitudes, values and personality. 

OTHER COURSES ALLOW STUDENTS TO EXPERIENCE CAREERS IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:

BABYSITTING COURSE - Learn about caring for children and earn an American Red Cross certificate upon completion. Participants must be at least twelve (12) years old.

AUTO MECHANICS - Learn how cars work, how to take care of them and a little about fixing them.

AUTO BODY - Learn how to fix rust and dents in cars.

BECOME AN ENTREPRENEUR - Design business cards, advertisements, invoices and customer databases to promote your afterschool job or business using Microsoft Office.

CARPENTRY - Learn how to use hand and power tools by making something out of wood that you will keep.

COMPUTERS - Learn BASIC Programming and write your own programs.

COSMETOLOGY - Practice hair, nail and skin care. Come be a part of our hands-on workshops.

CULINARY ARTS - Learn how chefs cook and bake for hundreds of people.

DESKTOP PUBLISHING & DIGITAL IMAGING - Learn the basics of desktop publishing and creating graphics. Use digital and photo editing software.

DRAFTING - Learn how to draw plans and blueprints the way professionals do and find out how computers do this.

ELECTRICAL WIRING - Learn some basic wiring. Make a multi-plug project to take home.

ENGINEERING DESIGN - Explore new areas in design technology; build your own robotics system using Lego/Logo components, make your own Barcoding Laser ID and operate a pick and place Robotic Arm.

ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGY - Join the Environmental Technology Team and learn what it is like to study wildlife and marine biology, meteorology and astronomy.

GUARDSTART - An aquatic program providing leadership knowledge and skills needed for a future lifeguard training course. Earn an American Red Cross certificate upon completion.

IT’S COOL IN HVAC - Build a refrigerator to see and feel how it gets cold.

MEDICAL MINUTES - Learn how to take temperatures, pulses and blood pressures, and administer first aid.

PLUMBING - Learn how to solder copper pipe and fittings, thread steel pipe, connect soil pipe and make simple plumbing repairs.

RETAIL MERCHANDISING - Learn how to use a cash register, take an inventory and set up displays in a store.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS - Learn and see how light and sound waves carry voice and video over fiber optic cable and the air waves. Build a telecommunications project to keep.

WELDING - Learn how to weld and make a welding project to keep.

Classes meet Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 4:15 to 6:15 p.m. for 4 weeks in March for the Spring session and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:15 to 6:15 p.m. for 4 weeks in October for the Fall session. There is a Program fee (non-refundable): $20 for Cycle 1 and $20 for Cycle 2 for all students enrolled in the program. Registration is accepted on a first come-first-served basis by mail, walk-in and fax or phone with a credit card. Payments can be made by cash, check or Mastercard/Visa and must be submitted along with your registration. Bus transportation will be provided from and to the elementary or middle school in our local school districts.

Sign up sheets for the After School program are available at all Minuteman district junior highs and middle schools, as well as at the elementary schools in Acton and Boxborough. Information may also be obtained by calling the Minuteman Regional Community Education Office at 781-861-7150.
