The Minuteman Middle School Outreach Service Project gives middle and junior high school students and teachers "hands-on" technical literacy and career training experiences. In learning about technological systems and the resources they use, students find out about human responsibility in conjunction with technical applications. Classes take place in a comprehensive technology oriented environment--the Technology Learning Center.
The Middle School Outreach Service Project allows kids to investigate various scientific and technological happenings in which they are interested. These include but are not limited to:
- Robotics and Mechanical Technology
- Manufacturing Technology
- Microelectronics Technology
- Laser Technology
- Biotechnology
- Construction and Solar Technology
- Telecommunication Technology
We believe that middle school grades are an ideal place to begin to foster an understanding of technology and the role it plays in shaping our culture. Students should learn at an early age that technology is a human endeavor.
The program is designed to demonstrate how technology education can be used to enhance applied learning and academics. It provides students at the middle/junior high school level with learning and career opportunities unavailable at their "regular" school. The program creates an atmosphere in which student experimentation in technological fields is encouraged by working as members of a coordinate team. In conclusion, it provides career awareness in a planned atmosphere of technical skills training and integrated academics.
