Program Outline

The goal of the Health Occupations program at Minuteman is to prepare students for a career in the fastest growing employment sector in the country. The program focus is a core curriculum which will certify the students as Medical Assistants with an optional Nurse Assistant certification.
Freshman Year
  • Introduction to Health Occupations and Specialty Fields
  • Infection control
  • Safety
  • Medical Terminology
  • Vital Signs
  • Medical Mathematics
  • CPR and First Aid
  • Rehabilitation Medicine
  • Basic Computer Skills (InfoPro Integration)
  • Body Mechanics
  • Intro to Microscopes

Sophomore Year

  • Basic Physician's Office Procedures
  • Vital Signs
  • Preparation and Maintenance of Exam Rooms
  • Growth and Development
  • Introduction to Pediatrics/Geriatrics
  • Computer Technology
  • CPR/First Aid
  • Review of Body Systems

Clinical Component

2 days per week in a healthcare facility

 

Junior Year

  • Computer Technology
  • Advanced Clinical Procedures
  • Hematology
  • Cardiology
  • EKG Training
  • CPR/First Aid/AED
  • CNA Training and Certification
  • Pharmacology Math Introduction
  • Documentation Skills

Clinical Component

3 days per week in a specialized medical facility i.e., veterinary clinic, family practice, x-ray, physical therapy, etc.

 

Senior Year

  • Surgical Procedures
  • Medical Asepsis
  • Basic Medication Administration
  • Biomedical Ethics, Death and Dying
  • CPR/First Aid/AED
  • Diagnostic Imaging
  • Phlebotomy
  • Resume Writing
  • Interviewing Skills
  • Eligibility for Certification through National Health Career Assoc. in Plebotomy Tech, EKG Tech

Clinical Component

3 days per week in medical placement (hospital or doctor's office) or co-op placement per eligibility
