Minuteman Soccer's
Outstanding 2007 Season

The Minuteman Regional High School boys soccer team finished undefeated in league play for 2007 with six wins, no losses, and two ties. Their outstanding season was capped with both the Commonwealth Athletic Conference Small division league title and a berth in the Massachusetts state-tournament for the 2007 soccer season.

Lexington - The Minuteman Regional boys soccer team has been one of the pleasant surprise teams of the area this fall. Last season, the Mustangs staggered to a 1-14-3 season. Although that team lost six seniors to graduation, the Mustangs brought back 10 veterans this year.

This season, the team recently punched its ticket into the Div. 3 North state tournament as it entered its final game of the season with a record of 8-5-1 overall and 6-0-2 in the Commonwealth Athletic Conference's Small Division.

"It's been a solid season," said Mustangs third-year coach Rick Repucci. "I would say around 75 percent of our players played indoors last winter or in their town leagues last spring."

The leading scorer this season has been freshman forward Jose Coadro. The Watertown resident has 12 points with five goals and seven assists.

"He is incredible for his size," said Repucci. "He is a little over five-feet tall and around 120 pounds, but he has great speed."

The top two goal scorers for the team are sophomore Arnon Albuquerque (Acton) and senior Nikolai Flint (Lincoln). Both attackers have scored seven goals each.

With the balanced attack, opponents cannot key on one player to shut down.

The Mustang defense has been anchored by senior Adam Radl.

"He is our best defender by far," said Repucci, about the Stow native.

Playing goalie this year is Lexington's Dan Schadley. The 10th grader has played 10 games in net and his record is 7-3 with a goals-against average of 1.89.

Repucci knew early on that this team was a lot different that the last few teams he has seen.

"I realized that at halftime of our first game," he said. "In the past I would point out things they need to do, but they never made the adjustments even though they said they would. This year they have made those adjustments."

Minuteman will play in the State Vocational Tournament before they participate in the states. Repucci hopes that the vocational tournament doesn't overlap with the states.

"It has happened in the past that teams have pulled out because of scheduling conflicts," he said. "I would want us to have the chance to play in as many games as possible."

Lexington - On Oct. 23, the Minuteman Tech boys soccer team captured its first Commonwealth Athletic Conference Small division title since 2001 with a 2-2 tie to visiting North Shore.

The Mustangs ended the regular season undefeated in the league at 6-0-2 while their final overall record was 8-5-2.

Things didn't start off well in the game as the visitors jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half scoring in the 10th and 15th minute. It could have been even worse but goalie Dan Schadley (Lexington) made a save on a penalty shot to keep the deficit at two heading into the half.

"If it had been 3-0 we wouldn't have been able to come back," said Mustangs third-year coach Rick Repucci. "He ended up having to make two saves on penalty shots in the game so Dan came up big."

In the 25th minute of the second half, the Mustangs finally scored as sophomore Arnon Albuquerque (Acton) found the back of the North Shore net. Dan Maloney (Stow) assisted on the play.

With just 10 minutes remaining in the game, the Mustangs tied it as senior Nikolai Flint (Lincoln) scored. Lexington resident Rick Dyer had the assist.

Schadley, who ended the year at 7-3-1 in goal, had seven saves in net.
