DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS - THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 2012

  • Attention members of the Gay/Straight Alliance:  we will be meeting in the Music Room this Thursday after school to start auditions for the Coffee House.  Refreshments will be served.

  • Attention all poets and artists.  The annual Poetry and Art contest is now underway.  This is your chance to win cash prizes of $10 to $100 and to be published in this year’s Poetry and Art Magazine.  All poetry may be turned in to the Library or your English teachers, and art may be turned in to Mrs. Bordeau in the Art Room.  See Mr. Donovan, Mrs. Bordeau, your English teachers, or the school Librarians for more information.

  • Did you know that February is Heart Health Month?  The Minuteman Physical Education Department along with the Marketing/Retail Shop will be participating in the American Heart Association Hoops for Heart and Go Red for Women programs during Winter Carnival.  Red dress pins can be purchased for $1.00.  If you would like to participate in either of these programs, you can pick up donations forms from Mr. Donato and Mrs. Plater.

  • The Math team will be going to Bedford High School today.  Since they do not have a budget, Mrs. Bernstein will be buying the pizza.  Unless you come see Mrs. Bernstein about toppings both pizzas will be cheese.  Please dismiss the Math Team at 1:37 to Mrs. Bernstein’s room.  Thank you.

  • Please dismiss the Swim team at 12:30 for the CAC Swimming Championships.  The meet is being held at Lynn Tech.

  • Attention Freshman Boys Basketball players – we will have practice today after school from 2:45 till 3:15.  Do not be late.

  • Congratulations to the Hockey team for their best game of the season last night – winning 7-6.  Defeating Northeast Regional for the first time in ten years.  Player of the game was senior, Shane McCloskey who had 2 goals and played an outstanding game both offensively and defensively.  Other players that contributed to the scoring were P.J. Morin with 2 goals, Braedan Kerins with 2 goals and Justin Tarani with one goal.  Congrats to Zack Wright for getting his first high school victory between the pipes.  Also contributing to the win was Joe Fowkes, Lucas Taylor, Eric Brogna and John Leonard.  A solid team effort and outstanding coaching as well.  Their next game is Saturday vs. Trinity Catholic in Watertown at 2:50 pm.

  • The Boys Basketball played Division 1 powerhouse Malden last evening at the Minuteman Ranch and gave Malden everything they could handle.  The Mustangs shot out to a 17-10 lead in the first quarter lead by Ryan Delaney’s 3-point shooting and Robbie LeBlanc’s timely hoops.  Malden made a push to gain a 35-28 lead at the half.  The Mustangs exchanges punches with the Golden Tornados and ran out of gas losing 64-51.  Troy Newton finished with 16 points and Brendan Kingston led the team defense pick up 4 of the 7 offensive charges to go along with 10 points.  Dylan Caples, Aidan Rojo and Wyatt Rojo played solid defense and had timely baskets in the loss.  Please dismiss the Boys Basketball team today at 1:37 as they travel to league foe Fellowship Christian Academy.

  • The Mustang Wrestlers finished up one of the finest dual meet regular seasons last night, with an historic win over [perennial power Wilmington High School.  The wrestlers end the regular season with an 11 & 5 record.  The best since 2005!!  Individual victories by: senior Maveric Casia – Pin @ 152; senior Jeff Starr – Pin @ 170; senior Jarvis Ewen – Pin @ 220; senior Spike Peterson – Pin @ Heavy. And with the 3 biggest wins of the night:  Senior, Steve Senato – Pin @ 182; freshman Tony DeCampo – Pin @ 113 and senior Sean Foley with a comeback Pin @ 126.
