L4 Accelerated Reading Center -7114
The center is designed for students who are recommended by the staff for reading support services. The center uses individualized, computer generated reading programs addressing the following skill areas: literal and inferential comprehension, paragraph comprehension, vocabulary development, and applied reading.
L4 Developmental Reading -7154
This course is designed to provide individualized attention to students who can benefit from special help in basic skill areas of reading. Students cannot select this course but may be placed in the course by referral only.
L3 Freshman Seminar -8100
This is a half-year course emphasizing tool-based computing. In this project-based course students learn graphics, data bases, word processing and spread sheets. Each student produces stationery, business letters, advertisements, business cards, inventories and payrolls. Students also receive internet training.
L3 Keyboarding -8223
This course will be offered during the junior/freshman academic week.The course will teach the touch-typing method of keyboarding. This will allow the students the ability to use the computer keyboard with more ease and efficiency. Since all colleges are requiring the use of computers with their course offerings, this course will help our students be prepared for the requirements of colleges.Prerequisites: none
L3 Personal Finances -8233
This course will be offered during the sophomore/senior academic week. This course will cover some introductory levels of finance. The first component will be accounting which will cover the basics of debit/credit entries, t-accounts, and journal entries. The second component will be with checking accounts, reconciliations, entries, processing, personal budgets, and credit cards.The third component will cover personal loans, car loans, mortgages, taxes, and interest rates. The final component will cover the stock market. The format of this course will include lecture, student documentation, and research on the internet. The students will be responsible for compiling a notebook/portfolio for submission to the instructor.
L3 Computer Applications -8023
This course provides students with a basic understanding of presentation and web page design software.During the first quarter students will learn presentation software and design several presentations, including use of digital still images and video images and importing of music.The second quarter will introduce students to web page design software and have students create a web site.
L3 Digital Video Production -8333
This course provides students with a basic understanding of the technology behind video as an information medium, and some of the ways in which it is created to achieve its desired effect on an audience. Students will create at least three different videos: a commercial, a how to or training video, and a video project of their choice. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate production skills and techniques as it relates to producing a variety of video formats.
L2 Introduction to Psychology -8243
This is an elective course that will be offered during the senior academic format. The course will provide an overview of the history of psychology. The course will also present those figures who have influenced the field of psychology such as Freud, Bandura, Pavlov, and others. Students will be exposed to the areas of human development, intelligence, social behavior, and personality. The format of the course will include lecture, interactive discussions, and some group work. The students will be responsible for various individual and group assignments. Prerequisites: none. Senior academic students only. Maximum enrollment: 18 students
L3 Fine Arts -2003
This class will begin with an introduction to basic drawing with pencil and charcoal, which includes the study of contours, value, composition, perspective, portraiture, and the figure. More advanced projects include the use of acrylic and watercolor paints, colored pencils, pastels, and sculpture materials, and will examine a variety of fine art movements such as Impressionism, Cubism, and Expressionism. students will be involved in class critiques where they are encouraged to speak about their own ideas and projects, as well as discussing the work of their peers.
