Who Should Enroll at
Minuteman Regional High School?

Any college-bound student who is not sure of what type of college program he or she should pursue. The comprehensive environment and career exploration program at Minuteman is specifically designed to help a student select a college path to a career that he or she will truly enjoy. Once a student focuses on such a path, the probability of success in college is far greater than it is for those going to college just because it is “the thing to do.” Too many students (almost 48% nationally) who enroll in college become dropouts, often because they have no motivating goal.

Any student who wants to take advantage of one of the most complete career exploration programs in Massachusetts and the nation. This program helps students decide how to use high school study time most effectively as a critical 4-year investment in college and/or career path preparation. The exploration program is specifically designed to help students identify career possibilities that match individual learning styles and talents.

Any student who has a career field preferences that can be supported and enhanced by any one of the 23 comprehensive Minuteman science, technology, or vocational programs. For example:

    • Students interested in science and high technology careers have access to the most complete spectrum of strong science-technology options available in Massachusetts .

    • Students interested in engineering have access to a complete Department of Education-approved high school program, not just one or two engineering or computer related courses.

    • A student interested in automotive technology can pursue career paths from master mechanic to service manager to automotive engineering. Combining strong academics and science study with automotive study has led some graduates to become design engineers after appropriate college study.

    • Those interested in medical careers can profit greatly from study in health sciences or biotechnology areas. Success in the competitive entry Biotechnology Academy prepares a student for the rigors of medical school, biomedical engineering and clinical research.

    • Students who enjoy working with people can select from numerous hospitality and retail service paths, including Culinary Arts, Cosmetology and Marketing.

    • Students with high visual talent can consider areas like computer-aided drafting and design, graphics and digital imaging, or even landscaping.

Any student who is an experiential learner, one who learns important academic skills best by using them on real-world problems. Up to half of the student population in public schools can become frustrated or discouraged with the emphasis on symbols and abstraction common in traditional high school programs. The emphasis on laboratory learning and accommodation of different learning styles at Minuteman helps many students to accelerate and enjoy their learning to levels they have never before experienced.

Any student who visits the school (and we recommend doing so with a parent) is usually amazed and attracted to the Minuteman option. Then the student must decide to select Minuteman Regional High School as a powerful investment in his or her own future. Minuteman has superior academic and career programs. Minuteman teachers are recognized in K-12 schools across the nation as accelerated learning leaders. The learning climate in the school is business-like and productive. The published results of the school’s programs and students are outstanding.

However, some student applicants are not able to clear a last hurdle - - acting on what they have learned despite pressure and misperceptions from peers and others uninformed about the powerful realities of Minuteman Regional High School. Minuteman welcomes those students who choose to move to an exciting and productive new learning environment because of what it can do for their future.

A serious student who has had learning difficulties in a school that has not been focused on serving different learning style needs. Minuteman will not admit students who are not serious about learning. Poor attendance, serious misbehavior, or failing middle school courses because of lack of work and proper attitude disqualify a student for admission. Minuteman is not a special education school. It is a comprehensive science-technology high school with extensive vocational-technical options under Chapter 74 of the General Laws of Massachusetts . However, up to capacity, the school will and does admit serious and well-behaved students with carefully analyzed special education needs. Our trained staff finds that many students with special education labels are capable and talented learners who need and deserve an environment that serves different learning styles, an environment that our school provides. Our staff is delighted to serve those students whom we can help become better-motivated students and, eventually, productive and accomplished citizens and contributors to the work force.
